Manburger's Birthday and Bluebonnets

Manburger had his birthday this week.   And while I would have happily made him any dessert he wanted, he requested the banana cake with chocolate ganache frosting and brownie batter dip (made from chickpeas, gasp!) as a filling.   I guess this is becoming a tradition for him.  I tweaked the recipe a little this year and used more leavening and got a fluffier cake.   This year it turned out the best yet, I'll have to jot down my changes so I can make it again next year.   I made him a tri-color lasagna for dinner, but besides cake we didn't have much time for other excitement on his actual birthday.   I took him out the Saturday before to see the new Captain America film at a swank movie theater/grill.   It's so nice to have a regular babysitter and still date each other.
We also got our first chance to see bluebonnets!  They are the state flower of Texas and we hadn't seen any until just recently.  There's a path around the nearby lake that I like to walk and I noticed driving out there that there was a hill just covered with bluebonnets, so the next Sunday we took a drive out to pick some.  So lovely!

How beautiful! We haven't seen the blue bonnets. The day we drove out to the area was the wrong time of the year! So happy you are able to enjoy them!
