Strawberry Shortcake

Manburger here, I just had to post a picture of my recent baking adventure--strawberry shortcake. I made this thing right here from scratch (except for the whipped cream, which is from a can). They were oh so delicious if I do say so myself. The strawberries we picked two days ago really made it outstanding. It might have taken me nearly two hours in the kitchen (Yogurl says I'm a fastidious recipe follower), but they turned out awesome. I also realize that taking this picture on a red plate was a bad idea, but they have all been eaten, so there is no going back now.

Reaping the bounty of the spring

Since Manburger is now done with school for the semester and we are getting ready to move the end of this week for the summer, we have been trying to fit in a few fun activities as well. This Friday we drove a ways out of town and went strawberry picking. The last time I remember picking strawberries was with my mom when I was still in preschool. It was neat because just she and I were out picking because my older sisters were in school. Sabrina seemed to enjoy herself on our berry picking excursion and did pick some lovely red berries, although we ended paying for a few green ones she picked in excitement. Hey, we all had some fun and have beautiful red, juicy strawberries to show for it. There is a big difference between fruit fresh from the field that day and the produce you buy at the store. Next up, blueberry picking with Jenn in the summer. Hooray!

Yogurl's trip to Texas

I just recently went to visit my sister in Houston, Texas. Since Manburger was taking finals, it was a great excuse for Sabrina and I to escape and let him study in peace. We had a wonderful time down there. Texas was beautiful, my sister's family is so welcoming, and we had an all around good time. Sabrina particularly enjoyed having cousins to play with. Oh, if only we could all live within a few hours of one another....maybe someday.
On one of our day trips, we drove to see the Houston temple, which is absolutely breathtaking. The grounds were so pretty as well.
We also enjoyed some good Mexican food at Lupe Tortilla with a sizzling platter of fajitas...heaven!
Manburger was very happy to have us home, and we were happy too, but I don't think I'll ever grow out of wishing I
could see my sisters more often.

Easter 2011

This was the first year that I think our daughter really enjoyed Easter. Fortunately for her, her Oma trained her well for egg finding and at our law school family egg hunt, she was in her element. She found quite a few eggs and got so excited when she saw another one. Easter morning, we hid eggs around the house, but she insisted we take a break and put some back in the egg carton they had been in previously because she had too many in her basket. Did she indulge in jelly beans and chocolate on Easter? Of course not, but she did find a few goldfish crackers in her egg and got two new books.

Manburger gets older.

Well, Manburger had another birthday, and as he tells me occasionally, "I'm an old man." I don't think so, but I guess he's not the 21 he was when I met him anymore. I made a peanut butter cake with chocolate frosting and banana filling this year. Our sweet girl even got to have a tiny piece to share in the festivities.
