Yogurl's Birthday!

Yes, it's true, I'm one year older and wiser too! Well atleast I hope I am. My thanks to everyone who left messages on our answering machine and sent fun gifts. Maybe I'm a bit of a nerd, but I always get super excited for my birthday. Manburger doesn't totally understand this, b/c whenever it comes to his birthday, he's always so disinterested. Maybe it's a guy thing?
Anyway, I had a great birthday. Early in the morning Manburger and I went down to La Jolla and went sea kayaking. Once we get the pictures from our waterproof camera developed, I'll tell you more about it.
My birthday cake was super wonderful! Manburger ordered a tres leches cake from my favorite Mexican bakery, it was perfect! As you can see from the pictures, it's iced in cream and filled with a strawberry filling. Yum-o!
In the evening, Manburger and I headed off to a restaurant called the Beach Grass Cafe for some California eats. I had a yummy stack of grilled veggies and some cheddar mashed potatoes (normally I wouldn't go for the mashed potatoes, but it was my birthday) and Manburger ordered Fettucini with scallops and a fresh tomato sauce. In the end, I think I ate as much of Manburger's as I did of mine. His pasta was amazing; it brought back memories of Boston's Northend. Needless to say, the restaurant was totally worth it, and I would love to go back.
Overall it was a great birthday, and I can hardly wait for the next one :) Just kidding, I'm in no rush for the next year to fly by.

Power Trip

Yogurl and I were supposed to go to visit my family for the weekend of the 4th of July, but I got a call from work saying I had to stay in the local area just in case they needed me to work to help fight fires nearby. So we ended up going down this past weekend instead. It was a lot of fun. The traffic was pretty bad going through LA, big surprise, but we got there just fine. My little nephew has gotten so big I could hardly believe it. He is so adorable, too. When he wants you to do something for him, he'll grab your finger and pull it where he wants you to go. It's so cute! One day, sadly, he'll probably learn that pulling on uncle Manburger's finger is dangerous business.
While we were up there, my brother took us to a Japanese steakhouse. We had never been to a Teppanyaki place before, and it was super cool. The chef was some white guy, so I was pretty suspicious at first. He also threw a spatula at my face by accident, but once he warmed up for a minute, he was really good. Then in the evening we watched some professional fights. Yogurl wasn't too sure that she wanted to watch them, but then she really got into it. It probably had something to do with Andrei Arlovski, but that is another story altogether.
After we came home, we finally got our powerblocks! I have been waiting for these for what feels like forever. They are dumbbells that adjust by using a selector pin to quickly change the weight. I am so pumped up to have them. I have wanted a set since I was in high school. Next time you see Yogurl, she will probably be ready for Miss Olympia.

The Fair

Hey everybody. This post is coming in a few weeks late, but better late than never, right? Yogurl and I went to the fair and had a blast. We spent more money and ate more fried food than we planned to, but it was still great. Actually, Yogurl ate more fried food than planned, I ate the exact amount I planned to eat.
Our trip started at a nearby college, where we parked for free and rode a bus the rest of the way to the fair. It was kinda fun riding on a school bus together, even if the seats aren't designed for people our height. Yogurl enjoyed visiting the livestock displays, and petting animals she wasn't supposed to pet while I stood by her and whimpered that the goat was probably going to bite her hand off. She got lucky this time. Somebody must have drugged up the goats to keep them tame. I really enjoyed playing basketball with Yao Ming. He couldn't handle my blocking skills. See the fear in his eyes?
Of course the best part was all the crazy food. We had fried sweet potato, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, zucchini, and best of all a deep fried snickers. As for non-fried foods, Yogurl's favorite was the cinnamon roll and my favorite was the Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich. Oh yes, a crispy chicken patty in the middle of a jelly filled Krispy Kreme donut. Delicious. Yogurl just told me that my pick doesn't count as a non-fried food.
While we were there we also saw a gigantic steer. This picture doesn't do it justice. Its head was the size of my torso. This thing was unreal.
Other than that, we mostly just realized how old we are getting. We went on a couple of rides and got sick to our stomachs. We didn't toss our fried goods or anything, but we certainly didn't feel up to going on any more rides. Anyway, it was a really fun day.
