The Big Leak

This week Manburger and I had our first apartment flood. I guess we can join the ranks of real newlyweds now. On Tuesday morning I went over to the dresser to get my earrings and my sock got all wet from stepping on the carpet. Now, for my sisters who have experienced cats and dogs, this wet sensation on my foot made me think of the times I've stepped in cat throw-up or doggie "puddles." Fortunately for me, it was just water. I called the apartment manager quickly because the wet spot was growing larger and larger. Turns out the water heater in the room next to our apartment had sprung a leak and was shooting water all over. By the time the carpet guy showed up to take care of the mess, there was a small swimming pool on our bedroom floor ;) The carpet dude brought in the big fans and a dehumidifier and Manburger and I ended up sleeping on our mattress in the dining room b/c we had to move furniture so the carpet could dry completely. Thank goodness we didn't have to pay for any of the repairs, but our electric bill may be a few bucks more this month from the fans blowing for 2 days straight.
The fun part came when the carpet guy put the padding and carpet back in place and took away the fans, b/c I then became like every wife in the world and rearranged all the furniture!! Isn't it funny, the things I swore I would never do when I grew up are the things I now enjoy. So as a result of the fiasco, we now have a refreshed and different look to our apartment. I think Manburger and I both like the new way a lot better.
For dinner this week I made a stromboli. My daddy sure likes to make those, but my version isn't really anything like his, seeing as there is no meat in mine. I used a batch of leftover whole-wheat pizza crust and made a filling of bagged mustard greens (a way tastier spinach substitute), feta cheese, garlic, a bit of grated parmesan, and a dab of roasted garlic pasta sauce. I put the filling in the middle of the dough, rolled it up, and baked it for about 15 minutes. Yumalicious!!
Also Happy early Valentine's Day to everyone. This will be our first married Valentine's Day b/c our first anniversary is this coming Sunday, hooray! I always like Valentine's Day growing up b/c my folks made sure we knew it was about their love for us girls too, not just for mushy couple stuff. But I am looking to being a mushy couple this time, hahaha!
Good news this week is that Manburger got recommended to qualify on his last position for the tower. So by the end of this week, he'll be able to man all the positions in the tower. I'm so proud of my Manburger. I think that's about it for this week. We'll keep you updated on any new excitement.

Yogurl versus Teenage Girls

Well, I gotta say that this hasn't been my best week ever. After coming back from Lancaster Sunday night, I started feeling a lot of tightness in my sides. I told Yogurl I had a bad feeling in my stomach. Sure enough I started throwing up just past midnight. At least there was plenty of dry heaving involved. The next day I got dressed and had Yogurl take me to medical so I could get a SIQ (Sick in Quarters) chit to turn into work. They took my blood pressure lying down, sitting up, and standing, in order to determine if I was dehydrated from having the flu. After getting results that they couldn't make sense of, they decided I was dehydrated anyway, and gave me a liter of fluid through an IV. That was pretty cool, even though Yogurl got pretty nervous sitting in the waiting room for two hours. After that they sent me home with some Pink Bismuth and said not to work until Wednesday. Yeah, free days off! Then Wednesday, I was feeling mostly all better until late in the evening when my throat started feeling sore and my nose started running. I guess I should be happy that I got my bi-annual flu and my semi-annual cold done in the same week, but it hasn't been very fun.
Those are just the starts of my depressing week, though. I bought an electric bicycle motor off E-bay, and it finally showed up. I figured that if I had a motor that would give me a pretty good boost, I could ride to work and home everyday, and save on gas and save on buying another car if Yogurl ends up needing the car for work. Well, on the ebay description, it said that this motor could go 15MPH without pedalling assistance. Then when I was installing it, I saw in the manual that it only really can go 12MPH. When I took it for a test drive, I found out it goes about 6MPH. Man did that ruin my day. I felt like my Little Orphan Annie decoder ring had really let me down.
Yogurl taught her Sunday school class for the first time today. I went in to support her, and also secretly I was planning on head-butting any of the teenage boys that stepped out of line. Imagine my surprise when the boys were all well behaved and the girls just wouldn't shut-up. Well, I just couldn't bring myself to yell at a little girl, so I guess Yogurl will have to learn how to handle them herself. The lesson went well, except that the kids had no idea how to read with the JST footnotes, and that the girls had to constantly be called away from their private discussions. They all seem nice, though. I just feel bad that Yogurl is the one with this calling when I'm the one who deserves the retribution for not paying attention in Sunday school. I'm sure my time will come.
We got to see Bridge to Tierra Bonita, er Terror Bifida, er Teribithia? on Saturday. They had a free early showing of it on base. I thought it was really good. Yogurl really liked it except that she cried like her favorite dog had just been run over right in front of her. It was really sad. For those who have not read the book already, I won't ruin the ending by saying that the girl dies. That would be mean to say.
I guess that's it for this week.
