Family Fun and Tummy Troubles

First of all, happy Easter and happy Saint Patrick's Day! Two great holidays that we enjoyed very much. Obviously one is more important than the other, but we like Easter too.

To start out with, we went and visited my family, the Burgers, for Easter. The weather there was actually quite nice this time of year. My nephew is getting so grown up now it is unbelievable. We saw him just two months ago, but he seems so much older already.

Yogurl made the traditional lamb cake as you can see in her sisters' blogs as well. I thought it turned out delicous. My mom made her traditional bunny cake, which is not pictured because it got run over by a truck crossing the road from the kitchen to the dining room. It still tasted great!

Church was great on Easter, too. I got to hear both my parents speak, and they didn't do anything to embarrass me, so that was quite the unusual treat.

After we came home from Easter, Yogurl's parents came to visit us. They were here most of the week, and they stayed at an inn right on the beach. It was really nice. We spent most of our time hanging out at their place because it was more exciting than our place.

While they were here we ate tons of yummy food and spent a lot of time on the beach, though not in the cold water so much. We also went to the San Diego temple and did an endowment session there. Then they asked us to do some sealings, which was a really great experience. What a wonderful place.

We also went to the Gemological Institute of America Headquarters. Their worldwide headquarters are just a few streets down from us. They had some beautiful exhibits there, and the tour was really informative, though I think our tour guide was a little confused about certain details. This giant crystal behind Yogurl is nearly a million carats of quartz crystal. When I asked Yogurl if she would like earrings like that she replied, "Don't be silly! I like big dangly earrings!" What's a guy to do?

Anyway, we had a great time seeing so much family this week, even though Yogurl came down with a stomach bug which she passed on to me. Maybe it was the other way around. At any rate, we are home sick from church right now, but we are feeling better than yesterday.

New Experiences

This past Friday Manburger and I got the chance to see the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and the Silent Drill Team perform on base. Manburger had seen them before, but I hadn't, so I was excited that they were performing at a time when both of us could be there. I drove onto base and met Manburger there b/c he was gone all day on his first group long-distance motorcycle ride to Palm Springs. Although he was sure either he or his motorcycle would die on the ride, I am very glad that both of them made it safely back home to me. Just in case you didn't know, Manburger often wakes up with the death omen (often meaning 3 or 4 times in his life). He is just sure that he is going to die that day. Hasn't happened yet, obviously.

But back to the Drum Corps and Silent Drill Team. I got to the parade field about 10 minutes before the show started and the place was packed. It's nice to see so many military families in one place. The Drum Corps did a nice job, but the real highlight was the Silent Drill Team. I don't even know how to explain it, but they are amazing. If you ever get the chance to see them perform or see a video of them, go for it, you won't regret it.

Another fun thing we did this weekend was buy some lobster tails. They were having a seafood road show at the commisary, so we bought two lobster tails and cooked them up for dinner tonite. I made some risi e bisi (risotto with peas) and Manburger took charge of the lobster preparations. It all turned out very tasty and considerably less expensive than ordering lobster tails at a restaurant. This was our first experience with eating fresh lobster. I tried lobster once when I was three, but definitely can't remember what it tasted like. It's similar to crab, but maybe a little less sweet.
That's about it for this week.
