One Already!?

It is hard to believe but little Eliza turned one year old last week! She asked for cupcakes for her birthday, so that is what she got. She also insisted that her candle be gaudy, so we did our best, though I think we fell well short of her expectations.
Since she had never seen something like this before, she started by eating off the fruit. She quickly realized that the frosting they were in was pretty exciting too. We had to break a piece of the cupcake off and feed it to her before she realized that she could eat that part too. She really seemed to enjoy it.
Opening gifts was also something she didn't fully understand but was excited about. Her first gift was a book that she kept looking at between presents. Maybe we should have waited until she was all done with the book before moving to the next gift, but she is one so it isn't like it really matters. She had a lot of fun, and her momma felt like it was a good birthday for her little girl.
Thought we should get some pictures of her posing outside. We tried to post ones here that show off all the teeth she is growing. Plus, we took these outside since we have had the best week of August weather imaginable for Dallas.
Hooray for our wonderful little Eliza. We love her so much and have had a wonderful first year. We look forward to them only getting better as they go.

More Missing Teeth and Balloon Fun

Clark wanted me to buy a pack of balloons with a pump from Kroger last week. Turns out I'm not very good at making balloon animals. Clark did really enjoy his longhorns, though. I kinda think they make him look more like Darkness from the movie Legend.
This tooth had been wiggling like crazy for days and days. I told Sabrina I was going to floss her teeth last night to make sure she was doing a good job. Then I wiggled the floss deep in the gums by that tooth and popped it right out into the sink. It didn't go down the drain, so the tooth fairy was able to successfully make a midnight trade.
I tried very hard to get a good picture of both of the kids' missing teeth, but one of them was always covering their teeth or tilting so I couldn't get a good picture. I never got a picture as good as I was hoping, but Sabrina looked like she was getting annoyed with pictures by this point.

What do Hair and Teeth Have in Common?

Clark had more of both last time you saw him!
Last Saturday I was cleaning up after dinner and the kids were playing on a mattress in the back room when I heard a crash and a scream from Clark. I ran back there and his hands were on his mouth with blood coming from between his fingers. Fortunately, it was just one already slightly wiggly tooth that got knocked out and he recovered pretty quickly. He and Sabrina couldn't agree on how it happened exactly, and that is about what you expect with kids that age. Or anybody, really. No real harm done, no big deal.
Today I cut Clark's hair and I asked him if he'd like to be bald. He said yes. So here you go. Not actually totally bald, I used a 1/2 clip which is roughly 1/16 inch in length. His head feels so fun to rub now!
And here is one more picture just because. The kids were playing in this water sprayer thing and having a lot of fun. We couldn't set it in the grass, unfortunately, because it kept falling over. No matter, they had fun on the driveway. Hooray for cheap water toys to help get us through an intolerable summer!
Just in case you wondered how hot it is here. That is my garden dying in the background. And yes, this thermometer is in the shade, and no it is not a dry heat.

Dr Visits

Sabrina had two doctor visits this week. One with her pediatrician, where she got to wear this designer paper robe, and one with her new eye doctor. She is in great health, though she was very disappointed that she didn't need glasses.

July Birthdays!

Yogurl had a birthday! Her cake was a pistachio cake with blackberry filling. Very tasty.

Sabrina turned 7 just a few days after and had a chocolate cake with strawberry filling. The cowgirl princess is wearing a little hat that I got from a coworker. Didn't my wife do a great job making a beautiful cake?
Blowing out the candles. Her hair was not actually on fire.

Sabrina has been wanting a Skip-it for quite some time.  We will have to post a video of her using it because her rhythm is so adorable. Maybe a video of Yogurl using it too. Equally adorable.
For Yogurl's birthday we went to an aquarium in Grapevine. It was a very good aquarium, especially for kids. It had a really cool spot where you walked through a tunnel and you could see fish swimming all around you. We had lots of fun.

Reunions

We spent a week with my family in California and then a week with Yogurl's family in Utah. We have surprisingly few pictures from the whole trip, but we really enjoyed it. One of the big highlights was seeing Brandon's baptism when we first got in to California. What a special treat that was.
Eliza with Papa. She was teething this week and so moments where she was happy with people other than her parents were rare.
Mimi with Clark and Eliza.
Getting a little exercise with little Eden. She is such a cute girl, with great red boots, if you hadn't noticed.
This was the view from the house we rented for the reunion in Heber, Utah. Hard to go back to Dallas after that.
There was a wedding party between Clark and his cousin Anne, who informed us her real name was Superhead. Look up on wikipedia the entry about first cousin marriage in the US and I think you'll find it is actually legal in far more states than you would have guessed. Still not allowed in my family after the age of 4, so this was their last chance.
Oma and Opa with Alice and Eliza.

Some Cuteness

Eliza started her piano lessons very young.
We had a western themed party at work and my coworker gave me a few little hats they had used for decoration afterwards. The kids all loved them. Eliza practiced putting the hat on her head and taking it off and giggling about it.
