$5 and a few hours of elbow grease

After debating the idea and the color of painting our shutters for since months, I finally pulled the trigger this week and got it done.  I did some research and found that Sherwin Williams had some historical colors from the 50s and 60s (our house was built in 1957), so I went with a color called "Burma Jade."   Basically it's that aqua/ greenish color that one associates with that era.   So for the price of a sample pint of paint and a few hours of elbow grease, we had a brand new look to the front of our house.  I still have some trim work to change from the blah gray from before, but I'd say it was a Saturday afternoon well spent.   And since the paint that was there before was so poorly done (from the street it looked fine, but up close it was pretty bad), I figured I couldn't do any worse.  We didn't even have to take down the shutters, which honestly, I doubt we could have done, I think the caps over the screws were hidden under five or so layers of paint.
